So I have decided that I need a flowchart that tells me what I can and cannot eat in the cafeteria. The cafeteria ladies are much like the stereotypical kind you imagine...they scoop your food and slap it, scoop, slap onto the plate. They are very loud and are screaming at us the whole time. When I first arrived it was you could have whatever you wanted but no seconds. Then a rule came to be that you could have one cup of juice or one piece of fruit...ok odd but not too obscure. Then a new rule came that you could have a hot option (which is the meal) or you could have one small bowl of salad...BUT NOT BOTH! Ok that is fusterating because the salad bowl is tiny!!! Today I got one small salad bowl, a piece of fruit and a piece of cake. The lunch lady follows me all the way to the back of the cafeteria and says 'Nope the rule is either one piece of fruit or one sweet..which is it?' And then she takes my apple from the tray. HOW RIDICULOUS IS THAT??? How is a piece of fruit and a piece of cake remotely the same??? Like I said I need a flowcart.
Last night I went to the Curry Mile with Helen for dinner..everyone says that you need to go at least once. We ate at a restaurant called Al Bilal and it was half Thai and half Indian. I had the Thai fried rice noodles and they were okay but no one hear knows what Phad Thai is which just kills me. After that we went and got ice cream...mint chocolate chip mmmmm.
Today I experienced my first UK rain it was soooo insane. It went from a little bit gloomy weather to a quick rain to pouring as fast as possible. It really is a good idea to wait inside a building for like fifteen minutes if its raining because the rain sometimes stops for a few then picks up again here. I had an umbrella but it didnt do much. My jeans and new boots were soaked from the knees down and the rain got in my school bag too. BOOO
Also today was my first day of class...I only had Operations Management and it seems pretty easy. Most of the students are second years and the assessment is over two poster presentations and one group paper. WOW! no exam, no homework, two readings per week. I think I can handle that. Although this semesters theme is Greater Manchester Transportation Solving and I don't know much about anything in Greater Manchester outside of Oxford Road.
Tomorrow I have class for five hours eww. I will have International Marketing, an International Marketing Seminar and Financial Markets and Institutions. I bought a gym membership here for 150 dollars and it is soooo small! It definetly is a rip off compared to UW's IMA but at least I won't surprise you all when I come back and I'm four hundred pounds :)
I booked my flight to Ireland with my Boston friends for Oct 8th and I am extremely excited! This weekend is my trip to Wales to see two castles and the game ManCity vs. Liverpool! I was told if I was wearing the opposing teams colors I would be escorted out of the stadium...they were dead serious.
Words US to UK:
-grades -marks
-exam -final assessment
I miss you allll!
Natalie
